Flawless Fingernails with a bowl of water?

by Cassie on June 7, 2013

I have seen a million different Pinterest pins about fingernails. There are pins that tell you how to paint little designs on your nails and pins that tell you how to keep nail polish off of your skin, but by far the one that made me scratch my head the most is the recurring pin that promises to give you dry and give you Flawless fingernails with a bowl of water?

Bowl of water to dry fingernail polish for flawless fingernails

Really? A bowl of water to give you dry and flawless fingernails?

It sounded too good to be true!

Of course Miranda and I HAD to test this too good to be true Pinterest pin.

What you need for “flawless fingernails”:

  1. A bowl
  2. Cold water
  3. freshly painted fingernails

How we tested this Pinterest pin:

We wanted to be fair with this test, so we used all different brands of nail polish in every color in the rainbow…and then some!!! So that we were certain that every different polish was tested in the same temperature of water we painted each nail a different color and dipped them all at once…let them soak for 3 minutes and then…..Like magic our nails were…..wait for it…….Flawless fingernails…right? Maybe? Sort of? Well………Not so much.

nail polish vs towel

Yep, this Pin Test is a horrible PIN FAIL!!!!!

Miranda and I thought maybe our water may not have been cold enough, so we added ice to the water and I got dubbed the test dummy. We added a few ice cubes and in goes my freshly painted fingernails for 3 minutes. I consider myself a strong woman (well strong enough to stand some cold water with a few ice cubes in it) But it took everything that I had to keep my hand in the ice water for 60 seconds. I guess I am not as die hard of a pin tester as I had thought! LOL

Even after the 60 seconds in Ice water my nails were nowhere near dry..Or Flawless!

We decided to give this pin one more try…Miranda painted her nails and let hers air dry while I painted mine and dipped them in water. After the 3 minutes were up Miranda’s nails were much MUCH drier than mine with just letting them air dry.

I say, don’t waste your time or water and just let your nails air dry!

PIN FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glue for perfect painted nails

I cannot color inside the lines.

At least not when it comes to painting my nails. I always get nail polish on my fingers. The harder I try to stay on my nails and off the skin- the worse it gets!

Pinterest had a solution for my bad nail painting skills! [Of course]

Pinterest:: Glue for Perfect Nails

So, the idea here is that you can paint the skin around your nails with school glue, let it dry, and then paint your nails with polish. No matter how messy you are with painting your nails, it doesn’t matter. You can [supposedly] peel the dried up glue off from around the nails and you are left with perfectly painted nails.

I Tested It

I did like they said. I painted around my skin. This is when I immediately thought- this is dumb! I am assuming you don’t want to get the glue on your nail- or the polish would pull off. So, basically painting the skin with glue is just as equally hard as painting your nails without getting on the skin….so what’s the point?

Then you have to let the glue dry.

So, now we have more waiting time and painting nails has just become a half hour project.

Once the glue is dry you can paint your nails. Be messy. Have Fun. It will be perfect in the end. Right?

Pull off the dried glue once your nail polish has dried completely.

Um No.

This is stupid.

Stupid!

When I pulled off the glue- chunks of my nail polish pulled right off with it!!!

It is practically impossible to tell in this blurred image– but here it is:

messed up glue nail

All Is Wrong

Not only did this pin just make painting nails HARDER but it just did not work. It also left my fingers messy. I missed a lot of the glue because once it dries you can’t really see it on your fingers. Until an hour or so later when it looks like you have a skin disease causing your skin to peel and flake off around your nails. EWW

Just be glad I am sucker enough to fall for this so you don’t have to!

Pinterest Cracked Heel Treatment

by Miranda on February 8, 2013

Cracked Heel Treatment

Cracked Heels and Flip Flops just don’t go well together. But I rock it the best I can every year. My feet are crying out for moisture and I have tried a few home remedies. But I must admit, I don’t try very hard. Regardless, when I found a Pinterest pin that made healing cracked heels look simple I figured I may as well give it a shot!

Cracked Heel Home Remedy Treatment Ingredient

You will need a handful of white rice, a couple tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey and Olive Oil.

coarse rice flour Use a grinder, I used a coffee grinder, to make coarse rice flour from the rice. Be sure it remains coarse so it can be the exfoliant in this cracked heel treatment remedy.

add ingredients to rice flour

Add a tablespoon of honey and apple cider vinegar.

mix up the ingredients to a paste

Mix up the cracked heel treatment ingredients. It should form a paste.

add olive oil

If you have badly cracked feet you can add a tablespoon or so of olive oil. (I made the mistake of letting my 3 year old pour the olive in and got a little more than I really needed)

mix up and let sit if needed

If you need to, you can let it sit for a half hour or so and it will turn back into a paste. During that half hour you need to soak your feet for at least 20 minutes. This was my favorite part!

exfoliate your cracked heels

Using the paste like an exfoliator, rub the cracked heel treatment into your feet for two minutes and then rinse off.

The PinTriedIt Cracked Heel Treatment Verdict

After completing this test my feet felt very soft- most likely thanks to the olive oil. But I could not physically see a difference. So, I decided to use it again the next day. Still no change.

I figured this must be one of those things you have to do for an extended time before you see results. So I did it again the next day.

No change.

This batch makes up enough cracked heel treatment to use every day for a couple of weeks. But after 3 days of using and having only mildly visible results. I don’t see any reason in continuing this.

I should probably just drink more water!
