DIY Hard Water Remover

by Cassie on August 24, 2012

I saw the most amazing picture on Pinterest, it was of a dirty kitchen sink! I know what you are thinking, how can a picture of a nasty kitchen sink be “amazing”? Well, let me explain. The pin was for a DIY hard water remover, and the picture was a before and after of…a kitchen sink! I am not kidding, I had one of those “to good to be true” moments.  The before picture was down right gross, and the after picture looked like a brand new sink. I knew I had to try it out…I had my doubts at first. I mean, I am so used to pulling out my store bought cleaner and breaking out a pair of gloves. I didn’t see how the non harsh cleaner could work if I could harmlessly touch it with my bare hands.

What you need:

  • Vinegar
  • Lemon Juice (1/4 cup)
  • Dish Soap
  • Squirt Bottle

How to make it:

  • First you fill your squirt bottle about half way full of vinegar.
  • Next you add 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and fill most of the remaining space with your dish soap.

Note: Make sure you leave enough room in your bottle to shake it!

  • Put your lid on and mix. WOW, that was fast!

How you use it:

First you have to find your nasty hard water stains.(This was easy for me, I am not ashamed to admit) Spray your cleaner onto your grossest hard water spots and wait 30 minutes. After your 30 minutes is up take a scrubby sponge and well…Scrub!

Here is what it looks like. Drum roll please…

The Verdict:

As you can see by the above picture, this really worked! I was amazed at how easy it was to make, and it didn’t really take that much elbow grease. I did have to scrub the really old and hardest stains a little, but I would have to say overall…I LOVED IT! After I cleaned my kitchen sink I wanted to really put it to the test… THE BATHROOM!!!!! (EEK) I was amazed yet again. I have lived in this house for going on four year now, and when this cleaner removed a hard water stain that had been on my bathroom sink since I moved in…I was a BELIEVER!!! This is most definitely a Pin Proved It!

Things to think about:
  • If your cleaner settles a little (mine did) just shake it and you are ready to spray your hard water stains away!
  • Also, this is a vinegar based cleaner so it…Smells like vinegar.
