Miranda and I are always looking for fun and easy things to entertain our kids. Homemade Foam dough seemed like an easy pin to test and it was made with ingredients that most people have in their house already. After seeing how much our little munchkins loved the Homemade Slime and the Smelly Play dough that we tested, we decided to give the foam dough a try too!
What you need to make Foam Dough:
- Shaving cream
- Food coloring (optional)
How to make foam dough:
Just add about equal parts of shaving cream to your cornstarch and mix it up!
As you can see from the picture below, it is a bit messy…to say the least!
Yep, that is right! Miranda looks like she has been dipping her hands in a Smurf’s butt dribblets or that she has some sort of blue fungi growing on her hands!
Have you ever tried to get food coloring off of your hands???
You could probably find actual Smurf crap easier!
Thank God for Pinterest!
We were able to find a pin that worked pretty well at getting most of the “blue poo” off her hands!
What we thought of this pin test:
Well, Miranda and I both thought that this pin test was going to be a breeze to make! We thought that our kids would have hours and hours of fun and that it would turn out kind of like play doh or at least moon sand as the original post said.
Weeeell, Not exactly… First of all, it is very hard to get the right ratio of shaving cream to cornstarch. We mixed and added and added and mixed, but we could never seem to get it just right. It was crumbly and would not stick together and was far from being “moldable”.
We let it set for an hour or so and after it dried out a bit, it sort of stuck together better… but it was far from its store bought equal. Another thought I had is the Play doh and moon dough you purchase at the store are Non-Toxic and this version is not. That is something to keep in mind if you have little ones that like to put everything they touch in their mouth.
Be careful when choosing your shaving cream. The shaving cream that Miranda and I used was a mens shaving cream, so our foam smelled like an old man with to much cologne on!!!! I did try this a second time with a “girly” shaving cream and it smelled better, but I still had the same result. Crumbles and a HUGE mess!!!
You can kind of see how the foam is coming together on the plate, but you can also see just how messy this pin test is!
I think I am safe in saying that Miranda and I are both glad that we tested this pin OUTSIDE!!!
As bad as I hate giving a pin test a fail, I am afraid that this has to be one of them. Honestly I would much rather my children play with the Homemade Play Dough that we tested or even the slime. They are both far less messy and neither one made it look like you were digging around in a Smurf’s butt nuggets!
