Life is far too busy to keep track of your laundry!
That’s what I say anyway. I once left a load in the wash for several days because I forgot I ever put it in there! I am not sure how many washes it had to go through to get that musty mildew smell out!
I am glad I learned this trick you can find on Pinterest by websites like TipNut. Just add Vinegar to your stinky load, let it sit for a few hours and then run it through the normal wash cycle with [homemade] laundry soap.
I had the perfect opportunity to try this the other day and the was glad to find my clothes went from smelling like rotten socks to fresh lavender (the scent of my homemade Softener Crystals).
I have seen other people claiming to just add a cup of vinegar to the wash and run it without sitting. I have tried that. It does not work. My clothes would still smell musty. The key to this is letting it sit as well as the hot water.
TipNut gave another awesome Mildew Laundry tip to make note of:
If your clothes get those black mold spores that I thought meant you may as well throw them away- put them on the line to dry outside! TipNut claims the sun will actually kill those mold spores!!
I will definitely give that a go the next time I bag up my toddlers pee-filled clothes and forget to take them out when I get home!
