My dog has a favorite peeing spot. He pees on my bushes outside my back door. It’s totally cool for him to pee there because there are rocks under the bushes, so no worries about dead or yellow grass. It’s an area we don’t walk through, so no concerns that we will walk over fresh pee. Unfortunately, rain stirs up the dog pee odor and that can be embarrassing and overbearing.
Meet my dog- Diesel
I remembered in my puppy training days that ammonia was great for neutralizing urine but may also attract a puppy to pee in the same spot again.
Taking this in mind, I know my Windex has ammonia in it and since I know he will be peeing there again and again anyway- what’s it hurt.
Windex Neutralizes Pet Urine Odor
I sprayed the windex all over the bushes and rocks and as quickly as I was spraying- the wet urine odor was disappearing!
Ammonia is the key ingredient.
I have pure ammonia and I could have probably watered it down 50/50 in a spray bottle to make this more cost effective. But honestly, I hate working with Ammonia. As you may recall me using it to clean my carpet- it’s some heavy and actually dangerous stuff. So, if I can avoid using it in it’s pure form in any way- I will.
Spray Again after 5-10 Minutes
You’ll find that urine smell will creep back slightly after about 5-10 minutes. I find spraying once again, eliminates it once and for all…well until the next time it rains after weeks of peeing in the same spot.
Windex with Ammonia is a quick solution to freshening up your outdoor space and freeing it from any offensive dog urine odor. You’re Welcome.
DO NOT USE INDOORS
Ammonia, as mentioned above, will cause your dogs and cats to be attracted to the spot and want to pee there again. So, using ammonia based products in your house is, quite frankly, a stupid thing to do. Vinegar does well at neutralizing ammonia but can be harsh in smell for many people. There are many products sold in stores to help.
Windex with ammonia is simply a quick fix with what I have on hand- but if you want to deter your pet from that area- do not use this idea!
