Pizza Calzone Recipe

When Cassie and I get together to test out Pinterest Pins we often struggle on how to feed our 5 kids as well as ourselves. It has been fun trying to incorporate a Pinterest Recipe into our day and this one really stood out from the rest. You can control the ingredients so it is perfect for the picky ‘cheese only’ kids and even better for the mature taste if you want to fill it up with veggies. Just as with pizza, there are endless combinations!

Not only was this a great way to please everyone but was also easy, quick and very attractive!

The braiding is really what caught my eye the first time I saw it on Pinterest. I have since seen this technique done with a variety of things including apple fritters! It is a simple concept but really does make a beautiful impact on the Pizza Calzone.

Tips:

  • Don’t cut your strips too long… somehow my first attempt looked like this:

Pizza Calzone Mess

I wish I could tell you what happened…but I really have no clue. I think I cut the strips too long and had the dough stretched out too much. Keeping the dough tight and strips only long enough to come across about 2/3 of the way kept it clean. Regardless, even though it looks like a mess, it still tasted great!

  • Watch the Oven. Original recipe called for 25 minutes minimum but after 22 minutes ours began to burn. So watch for it to have a golden color around the edges.
This of course, was a Pin-Success! It was delicious, beautiful and super simple.

I am no cook (srsly) but it may have been the dough got too warm and stretched? I tried something with crescent rolls and wasn’t quick enough and my hot hands stretched the dough. Glad to know it tasted good no matter. Thanks for the tip on the 22 minutes. :)
