I love dryer sheets! They keep my clothes from clinging, static from flying and my clothes smell oh so very good! But since we have been exploring all of these do it yourself Pinterest pins why not see what options there are for my store bought dryer sheets? Check out this pin where The Coupon Girlz.com tells us you can replace your dryer sheets with a sponge!?
Say what?! I must admit that going into this Pin-Trial I was very skeptical…did my experiment change my mind?
Soak a sponge in 2 parts water to 1 part softener. Ring out. Toss into dryer. Reuse.
The other day Cassie shared a pin she tried that gave us a way to make our own fabric softener from just
conditioner and vinegar! The first time I tried this Dryer Sheet Sponge Pin I used the homemade fabric softener. Unfortunately although the fabric softener did not make my clothes smell like vinegar when used in the washer, when this was put into the dryer and heat was added to it…my clothes smelled sour!
So, I tried it again. This time I used Downy Fabric Softener. My clothes smelled great and felt wonderful– I didn’t even notice any static cling!
WHY?? I sit here and question would I really continue to do this? Being blunt- I would never do this again and let me tell you why.
First…Dryer sheets are not very expensive! So, I’m not really saving much money
Second…It’s messy. You have to ring out the sponge- meaning your hand gets soaked with slimy fabric softener that isn’t easy to wipe off.
Third…storing it could be a pain!
It works! So whether you want to deal with the hassle is up to you. I personally don’t find
the value and will continue to buy dryer sheets. Besides, I use dryer sheets all over my house– gotta have them!
I am going to be calling this a Pin-Proved-It simply because it DOES work. I just cannot personally fathom doing it…unless maybe I ran out of dryer sheets….and there was an ice storm preventing me from going to Walmart…or some other crazy disastrous story!
